First Surgery Recovery Day 20: Small opening

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

I can still just barely open my mouth, meaning the space between my upper and lower jaws. This is normal for the first month. I look forward to not having to uncomfortably shove my toothbrush between the jaws, mainly because it barely fits and actually hurts since it's slightly larger than the opening. I usually brace it on the outside and it wedges my jaw open slowly. Good thing the part of the toothbrush below the brush part is a bit slimmer. Once I get it between the teeth, it kind of "pops" in and stays there until I pull it back out. Sounds like fun, I know.

I blended a brownie with some ice cream, a banana and chocolate syrup tonight. It was pretty good. I also had several Ensure drinks and a Boost today, as well as two cans of soup and another homemade soup for dinner.

No pain today with the exception of the toothbrush. Not much discomfort either. I'm very glad I don't have to sleep with my head elevated anymore. It's much easier to sleep now, and I rarely have to get up in the middle of the night.

Today's entry is a bit short since I'm headed back to work tomorrow and need to get some things ready. I haven't been to my job since January 7th, and I haven't spent a full week there since December. I don't think it'll be that strange to go back. As I've said before, I'm looking forward to getting back in the swing of things. It's about time things are back to normal.

I'll have to bring some Ensure, a toothbrush, toothpaste, syringe to squirt, paper towels and the Vitamin A&D. Fun times ahead. Good thing I'm on day 20 though. Day 20 is a thousand times easier than the first few days.
