First Surgery Recovery Day 17: Gloomy Saturday

Saturday, January 25, 2014

A slow, light snow fell on New York today. If you shot a photo outdoors today and made it super blurry, it would look like a big blue and gray fuzzy image. It was gloomy. I stayed in with the exception of a few minutes standing outside after taking out the trash and recycle.

I had trouble sleeping last night. I'm still on two pillows to keep my head elevated. Elevating my head helps reduce the swelling in my face. I woke up around 5:30 with some general pain in the gums by my upper jaw. It wasn't a sharp pain, and it was maybe only a 4/10 on the pain scale, but it was enough to get me to walk into the kitchen and take my first Ibuprofen in the last 24 hours. I was able to go back to sleep for four more hours.

When I woke up around 9:30, I had a Boost Plus and an hour later some scrambled eggs blended with cheddar cheese and water. At noon, I unleashed my five rubber bands for the day, as directed by my surgeon. I'm now going for a 14/10 balance, with the rubber bands on 14 hours out of the day, and 10 hours with them off. Over the course of a few weeks, the rubber bands will help to pull my lower jaw over a tiny amount so it's perfectly in line with my upper jaw. It's not really too painful at all, but as I previously mentioned on another day it is a bit weird that I can't open my jaw more than half an inch. It's all normal for the first month according to my surgeon.

I've been listening to Joe Rogan's podcast today. I've been through almost all of them in the past. There might be 20-40 I missed out of 400+. And I'm listening to Bill Burr's podcast right now as I type today's entry. It helps to pass the time.

I'm happy to report that I finished editing the first "final" draft of my latest short film. I'm going to let it sit a few days or maybe a few weeks, as I'll want to tweak it as much as possible before release. In the meantime, I'm prepping all of the photographs and my website blog entry that accompanies the release of the video. I also will start planning the marketing campaign where I'll contact all of the people I know of who are in high places that can help push the video to a larger audience. I'm excited.

I also listed more eBay items today. I take a lot of time shooting photos for the items, giving the process of listing a lot of effort. I believe that taking your time with putting together an attractive listing page has the potential to get you more eyeballs than if you just snap a blurry photo with your phone under poor lighting. I hope the items sell soon.

I've been eating a lot of Chicken Noodle soup with broccoili added in, then blended. So I guess I've been drinking it, not eating. I've also been drinking a lot of Ensure and Boost Plus. I very rarely feel hungry. The shakes do a good job of helping to keep my stomach from making noises of hunger. I didn't weigh myself this morning to see if I've dropped another pound, but I'll do it tomorrow.
